On Monday, March 31, 2025, the Croatian Parliament hosted a ceremonial awarding of the National Science Awards for achievements in 2023. The awards, representing the highest recognition for scientific accomplishments in Croatia, were presented by the Vice President of the Croatian Parliament, Academician Željko Reiner, and the Minister of Science, Education and Youth, Prof. Radovan Fuchs, Ph.D.
A total of 29 awards were given: 5 lifetime achievement awards, 16 annual awards for scientific achievements, 3 awards for the popularization of science, and 5 awards for young scientists. Special recognition is given to professors from the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb: Prof. Nada Zgrabljić Rotar, Ph.D., a retired professor who received a lifetime achievement award in the field of social sciences, and Prof. Šime Demo, Ph.D., who received the annual award in the field of humanities.
During the ceremony, emphasis was placed on the importance of continuous investment in science as a foundation for long-term societal development, as well as the significant increase in research and development funding, reaffirming Croatia's commitment to achieving the goals outlined in the National Development Strategy.
